Church as a verb

How do you define church? A building where people gather to sing songs and hear a short (or long depending on your tribe) talk. That’s church as a noun. I like to think of it more as a verb.

When church is a verb we stop going to church and start being the church.

In the Bible nobody ever went to church. The apostles didn’t go to jail and get beaten because they attended a religious meeting.
They were persecuted and chased down and killed because they obeyed Jesus instead of Caesar. They believed Jesus was the Messiah and their lives were changed.

The church=transformed lives transforming lives

It’s good to gather together for worship and teaching and to celebrate what God is doing but I don’t think that’s all God had in mind when it came to church.

The church is the people of God on mission with him and not a building occupied from 10:00am to 12:00am (or whatever time your tribe does it).

It’s people…..

serving, praying, giving, resting, agitating, sharing, teaching, worshipping, loving together in obedience to the one they call Savior and Lord.

When you think of it that way it becomes more than a set time and place during the week. It becomes a radical lifestyle.
